There is strength in unity \u2013 and the Machinists Union provides workers with a powerful, collective voice to communicate to management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Regardless of your specific needs, the union is here to help. Union members:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Earn wages, on average, 26 percent higher than non-union workers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>89 percent of union workers participate in a defined benefit program while 46 percent of nonunion workers participate in a defined benefit plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are more likely to have employer-provided health insurance benefits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have greater access to apprenticeships and training opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ll find Machinists in Aerospace, Transportation, the Federal Government, Automotive, Defense, Woodworking, and several other industries. These ten steps are not offered as a final or exhaustive list of how the process works, but as a brief guide on how to get organized.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"> Prospective members should be aware that their right to Union representation is guaranteed under the law, and that it is illegal for a company to take action against an employee for seeking to form a Union or become organized.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\">The <strong>10 Steps<\/strong> of the Certification Process are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"> Initial contact with the Union results in a meeting between the employees seeking certification and the Union&#8217;s representatives.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"> Employees sign Application For Membership cards. Please note that all Applications for Membership are treated in the strictest confidence &#8211; your employer will never see these cards! <em>Further, the Union <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">always<\/span> seeks sufficient membership cards for certification (minimum 55%), in order for a workplace vote.<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"> The Machinists Union applies to the Labour Board for certification.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\">A hearing is held at the Labour Board, where your Union will appear on your behalf.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"> Assuming no valid objections are raised, the Labour Board will hold a vote for certification of a Union.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"> The Union holds meetings with the employees to get proposals\/demands for collective bargaining.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"> Election of your Shop Steward and negotiating committee representative(s).<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"> Collective Bargaining sessions are held between the Company and the Union.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"> Settlement of your Collective Agreement is always subject to ratification by a majority vote of the employees in the Bargaining Unit.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"> Only upon ratification of a collective agreement does the Machinists Union begin collecting dues from its new members.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\">For information on how to join the IAM, contact Organizer Al Cyr at the address shown above, or drop us a line via email.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/workerpower250.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Visit WorkerPower for more information<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers NO CONTROL OF YOUR WORKING CONDITIONS AND HOURS?&nbsp; BOSS PUSHING YOU AROUND?
